Senator McCain should be ashamed

This delusional (seemingly senile) man recently stated that success in Baghdad is so apparent, that in some areas you can walk down the street freely and safely. Implying no safety nets are needed such as guns, helmets military protection in humvee's , etc.

Well McCain pulled a political stunt by going to Baghdad today and had protection from 100 of our military, 3 Blackhawk helicopters, and 2 Apache Gunships. Oh and he wore a straight jacket.., I mean bullet proof vest (wishful thinking). This story was reported widely on Sunday, here's Think Progress's entry on McCain's visit.

Lindsey Graham was there too, touting he bought 5 rugs for $5 and how "engaging" the people were in the market. After their hour tour out of the market area they headed back to the heavily guarded green zone to give their talking points speeches about how safe it was and how Bush's surge (aka escalation) was working.

As mentioned at Think Progress: Newsweek’s Babak Dehghanpisheh writes: “In any case, it didn’t take the insurgents long to send their reply. Less then 30 minutes after McCain wrapped up, a barrage of half a dozen mortars peppered the boundaries of the Green Zone, where the senators held their press conference.”

Sadly, to top this off, while so much of our military was sidetracked covering McCain and Graham's asses, we lost 5 more soldiers in and round Baghdad. I can't help but wonder if their fate might have been different if these senators hadn't stooped so low as to take his presidential bid to Baghdad. All those soldiers protecting him would have been elsewhere, causing all other military to be elsewhere, maybe somewhere out of harms way... for the time being anyway.
