Political Wire has learned that Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ) will retire at the end of his current term. He is the 29th House Republican to announce he will not seek another term. Shadegg is interested in running for U.S. Senate should Sen. John McCain become president. This is a Republican stronghold but early fundraising by Democrat Bob Lord, suggests Shadegg may be in for a tougher fight than he expected.
The Democratic party is salivating over all the seats opening up on the Republican side for the 2008 race.
